On behalf of the Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners, we would like to express our appreciation for the latest announcement by the Environment and Ecology Bureau to defer the implementation date of the Municipal Solid Waste Charging Scheme to 1st August 2024.
We believe that this government announcement is a step in the right direction towards increasing the effectiveness of educating the public on the significance of reducing personal waste as a long-term solution. Instead of solely relying on expanding Municipal Solid Waste treatment facilities to cope with the rise in waste disposal every year, it is crucial to emphasize the importance of waste reduction and proper disposal.
The government will be commencing a "trial run" at government departments and buildings, starting from 1st April 2024. This trial run is designed to demonstrate the real-life application of the waste charging scheme and provide tangible demonstrations and educational drills.
As members of the Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owner, our industry can play a significant role in promoting waste reduction practices. The Federation would like to extend an invitation to any member hotel who wishes to support the government to participate in this trial run. If you wish to join us in supporting the government and taking part in the trial run, we kindly request that you inform us of your intention. The Federation will then coordinate with the relevant government departments to facilitate your involvement in the trial run.
Your participation will not only contribute to the success of the trial run but also showcase your commitment to sustainable waste management practices. Together, we can make a positive impact on waste reduction and environmental conservation in our industry.
