The Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Charging Scheme will be implemented on 1 August 2024. MSW charging is based on the "polluter-pays" principle. All wastes disposed of by residential and non-residential (including commercial and industrial sectors) premises in Hong Kong will be subject to charging based on its quantity. To facilitate the hotel trades’ preparation for MSW charging, the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) is holding a series of briefings (available in Chinese and English) to provide details of implementation, including the charging modes, types and prices of designated bags and designated labels, legal requirements and penalties, waste reduction and recycling tips, etc. The targeted audience of the briefings are the person-in-charge / frontline supervisors of the hotels, so that they would be able to further pass the relevant information to the frontline staff after the briefings.  

Therefore, the EPD has commissioned the Hong Kong Productivity Council (“HKPC”) for organizing the briefings and the details are as below:

誠邀參與都市固體廢物收費 酒店業界培訓講座 – 3月份時間表更新 

都市固體廢物收費（垃圾收費）將於2024年8月1日實施。垃圾收費將會按「污染者自付」原則，對全港所有住宅和非住宅（包括工商業界）處所所產生的垃圾按量收費。為協助餐飲業界適應垃圾收費，環境保護署（環保署）將會舉辦一系列培訓講座，設有中文及英文場次，以提供有關實施細節，包括收費模式、指定袋及指定標籤的種類及收費、法例要求及罰則和減廢及回收安排等資訊，希望有助業界為落實垃圾收費做好準備。本培訓講座的主要對象為餐飲業處所的管理人員及前線督導人員，好讓他們在講座後能將垃圾收費的相關資訊進一步傳遞給前線員工。
