Labour Day Golden Week

I am writing to inform you about the upcoming Labour Day Golden Week, which will take place from 1st to 5th May 2024.  Hong Kong is gearing up for at least 800,000 mainland Chinese visitors and about 5.9 million people crossing border checkpoints over the Labour Day “golden week” holiday.

During this period, most facilities in Hong Kong, including shopping malls, Temple Street Night Market food stalls, beaches, parks, reserves, and nature sites, as well as border crossings, will operate as usual. However, it is important to note that certain major sightseeing attractions may have special operating hours and arrangements during this time.

To ensure that your hotel guests have a smooth and enjoyable experience during the Labour Day Golden Week, we have attached detailed information regarding the opening hours of major sightseeing attractions in this email. Please refer to this document for specific operating hours and any additional arrangements that may be in place.

Pyrotechnics display on 1st May

Additionally, we would like to draw your attention to the special information regarding the Pyrotechnics display on 1st May.  We have provided details about vantage points from where your guests can witness the display.  Please take note of any transportation adjustments that may be in effect on that day to ensure your guests' convenience and safety.

The best vantage point to watch the 1st May pyrotechnics display will be along Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, close to Tsim Sha Tsui East.

Other vantage points include:

  • Hung Hom Promenade, close to Kin Wan Street

  • Wan Chai Temporary Promenade, close to Golden Bauhinia Square

  • Wan Chai harbourfront area, including the Water Sports and Recreation Precinct and HarbourChill

  • East Coast Park Precinct, North Point

Temporary road closures and bus diversion arrangements will be implemented for the 1st May Pyrotechnics display.

Yau Tsim Mong Shopping Festival

The Federation is also a proud supporter of this year's Yau Tsim Mong Shopping Festival, initiated by the Yau Tsim Mond District Office and District Council.  The festival will gather about 2,200 outlets of 110 brands, especially malls, hotels, restaurants and retail stores in Tsim Sha Tsui (including East Tsim Sha Tsui) and Mongkok, providing different time-limited offers. Taking place simultaneously with the pyrotechnic display, the festival will create a synergetic effect in enriching the experience of both locals and visitors and stimulating positive spending sentiment in town.

HKO predicts rain for Hong Kong over coming Golden Week

According to the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), under the persistent influence of a trough of low pressure, there will still be showers and thunderstorms over Guangdong in the next couple of days.

With the trough of low pressure weakening, showers will ease off over the region next Monday. Another trough of low pressure is expected to form over northern part of southern China and edge closer to the coast of southern China midweek next week. The weather will be unsettled with thundery showers over the region.  Weather condition on 1st May will be cloudy with showers and squally thunderstorms. Showers will be heavier at times.

Instant weather information can also be obtained by downloading the MyObservatory app or visiting the Hong Kong Observatory website.

We encourage you to review the attached information carefully and share it with your team and hotel guests. This will help everyone plan their activities and make the most of their time in Hong Kong during the Labour Day Golden Week.

Once again, I extend my warmest wishes to you and your team. May this Labour Day Golden Week be a resounding success for your business and a memorable experience for all who walk through your doors.
