We write to inform members that the Transport Department (TD), together with the relevant inter-departmental working groups, will implement a series of special traffic and transport arrangements, together with heightened monitoring, at Hong Kong's major boundary control points, tourist districts and event venues throughout the National Day Golden Week from 1 to 7 October 2026. As the holiday period this year coincides with the commencement of the Chung Yeung Festival grave-sweeping arrangements, traffic conditions in a number of districts are expected to be noticeably heavier than in previous years, and members are advised to plan ahead accordingly.

Boundary control point traffic

The Immigration Department estimates that approximately 7.44 million passenger trips will pass through Hong Kong's sea, land and air control points during the holiday period. Passenger movements at the land boundary crossings are expected to peak on 3 and 4 October 2026, with the following checkpoints under the greatest pressure:

Residents and visitors may also visit "Easy Boundary" (www.sb.gov.hk/eng/bwt/status.html?type=outbound), a one-stop information platform on immigration clearance launched by the Security Bureau, to obtain useful information in one go, including the respective average waiting time for passengers and private cars at land BCPs, as well as for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) cross-boundary shuttle bus (Gold Bus) and the Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang cross-boundary shuttle bus (Yellow Bus), so as to plan their trips and save waiting time.

National Day Fireworks Display and Wan Chai road closures (1 October 2026)

Road closures will be implemented in phases on Hong Kong Island to facilitate the National Day Fireworks Display over Victoria Harbour:

Members operating hotels in Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and North Point are strongly encouraged to review guest arrival and departure schedules, coach and limousine pick-up points, and goods delivery timings well in advance of 1 October, and to advise guests of the anticipated congestion and pedestrian control measures in the vicinity of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
